adLIMS is a free open-source laboratory information management system (LIMS) designed for PCR and next-generation sequencing labs. The software is an extension and customization of the ADempiere open-source enterprise resource planning (ERP) application.

Product history

adLIMS was created out of a need to better streamline the workflow and data that came out of high-throughput integration site monitoring at the San Raffaele Telethon Institute for Gene Therapy. "Because of the huge amount of samples that we process every year, which result in hundreds of millions of sequencing reads," the developers claimed, "we need[ed] to standardize data management and tracking systems, building up a scalable and flexible structure with web-based interfaces..."[2] The team eventually settled on the free, open-source ADempiere ERP as a starting point because of its "high usability and modularity that grants high use-case flexibility and software scalability for custom solutions."[2] Lead developer Giulio Spinozzi created a SourceForge page for the finished product and uploaded the first version on March 20, 2014. A follow-up version (overwriting the original) arrived on September 24.[1]

Features

Features of adLIMS include:

  • sample management and tracking
  • experiment management
  • administration management
  • automated data entry
  • reporting
  • data backup
  • export to PDF, XLS, CSV, etc.
