LIMSwiki is a collaborative wiki dedicated to the scientific community, featuring organized, documented, and up-to-date content regarding all aspects of laboratory informatics, bioinformatics, and health informatics. LIMSwiki also strives to maintain relevant knowledge about laboratory equipment as well as commercial and open-source software likely to be used in a laboratory setting. This also includes the vendors of such equipment and software.

Like any community wiki, the value and success of LIMSwiki is dependent upon the scientific community contributing their vast knowledge through the creation of relevant articles and editing of existing articles where knowledge is absent. "Cybersecurity and privacy risk assessment of point-of-care systems in healthcare: A use case approach"

Point-of-care (POC) systems are generally used in healthcare to respond rapidly and prevent critical health conditions. Hence, POC systems often handle personal health information, and, consequently, their cybersecurity and privacy requirements are of crucial importance. However, assessing these requirements is a significant task. In this work, we propose a use-case approach to assess specifications of cybersecurity and privacy requirements of POC systems in a structured and self-contained form. Such an approach is appropriate since use cases are one of the most common means adopted by developers to derive requirements. As a result, we detail a use case approach in the framework of a real-based healthcare IT infrastructure that includes a health information system, integration engines, application servers, web services, medical devices, smartphone apps, and medical modalities (all data simulated) together with the interaction with participants. Since our use case also sustains the analysis of cybersecurity and privacy risks in different threat scenarios, it also supports decision making and the analysis of compliance considerations. It was time to put a refresh to LIMSwiki's laboratory informatics specification LIMSpec 2019 R1, and today we release that update as LIMSpec 2022 R1. The update adds almost 30 new regulations, standards, and other guidance, and it updates or replaces another 11. Examples of significant additions include CLSI QMS22 Management of Paper-based and Electronic Laboratory Information, ACMG Technical Standards for Clinical Genetics Laboratories, and WADA International Standard for Laboratories. Some verbiage on existing requirements was also slightly tweaked where necessary. Like the previous version, the spec remains firmly grounded in ASTM E1578-18 Standard Guide for Laboratory Informatics. Hope you find the specification useful in your laboratory informatics acquisition and implementation efforts.

It's early 2022, and it seems about time for a new guide. This time LIMSwiki takes a look at the medical diagnostic and research fields and how laboratory informatics factors into their operations. The Laboratory Informatics Buyer's Guide for Medical Diagnostics and Research first examines the many different types of sciences practiced in medical diagnostics and research, including pathology and molecular diagnostics, and the laboratories that use those sciences. Next, the guide addresses laboratory informatics and how its related applications address the needs of those labs, followed by numerous resources to assist with implementing informatics solutions in the lab. The guide closes with a chapter on using the request for information (RFI) to your advantage, as well as a customized specification document (LIMSpec) for medical diagnostics and research labs.
