University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign — also known as U of I, University of Illinois, or simply Illinois — is a public research-intensive university in Illinois, United States. More specifically, the campus spans the twin cities of Champaign and Urbana, together known as Champaign-Urbana. It is the flagship campus of the University of Illinois system and a founding member of the Big Ten Conference. UI is classified as a research university with very high research activity by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education.[1] The university enrolled nearly 46,000 students, and it ranked 44 among national universities and tenth in "Top Public Schools" according to U.S. News & World Report's 2016 rankings.[2]
