University of Michigan (UM, UMich, or U of M), frequently referred to simply as Michigan, is a public research university in Ann Arbor, Michigan, United States. The school is organized into 19 schools and colleges offering more than 265 degree programs.[1] UMich is classified as a research university with very high research activity by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education.[2] The university enrolled more than 43,600 students, and it ranked 27 among national universities and fourth in "Top Public Schools" and "Business Programs" according to U.S. News & World Report's 2016 rankings.[3]
