Contrived purely for the purpose in hand rather than planned carefully in advance. The use of an ad hoc procedure provides the ability to step outside an established pattern to accomplish a particular task. Using ad hoc processes, while often convenient and necessary, sometimes circumvents intended safeguards. It is a good practice to consider any wider implications of performing a task ad hoc before stepping outside an established pattern which may automatically provide important integrated steps or appropriate constraints.
