The LIMS Wiki or 'Laboratory Informatics Encyclopedia' mission and goal is to provide the LIMS community with an organized, documented, up-to-date, standard, body of knowledge (BOK) regarding all aspects of Laboratory information management system (LIMS).

The value and success of the LIMS Wiki (like any community Wiki) is dependent upon the LIMS community contributing their vast knowledge through the creation of LIMS Wiki articles where knowledge is absent as well as verification (and clarification or correction when appropriate) of content.

The explosion of the field of Laboratory Informatics and the vast number of LIMS vendors and products as well as the increased scope of LIMS well beyond their original purpose of sample management to just about all facets of the goings on of labs has resulted in a wealth and variety of information not easily comprehended. This potential confusion frustrates LIMS customers and makes the already challenging task of successfully implementing and managing a LIMS even more difficult. It will be of great value to all in the LIMS community (vendors, users, and consultants) to have a common vocabulary and understanding to facilitate communication and comparison and even integration of multiple products to provide maximum value to labs and maximum opportunity to LIMS vendors and consultants.
