While this arguably may not be an authoritative list of organizations and not-for-profits relating to clinical laboratories, reference laboratories, physician office laboratories, or other aspects of health informatics, an attempt has been made to make it thorough.

  • American Medical Informatics Association: AMIA; a professional scientific association which "aims to lead the way in transforming health care through trusted science, education, and the practice of informatics"
  • American Medical Technologists: AMT; a certification agency and membership society that intends "to manage, promote, expand upon and continuously improve our certification programs for allied health professionals who work in a variety of disciplines and settings"
  • American Society for Clinical Pathology: ASCP; a professional organization that "provide[s] excellence in education, certification and advocacy on behalf of patients, pathologists and laboratory professionals across the globe"



  • California Clinical Laboratory Association: CCLA; "an active organization designed to deal with State regulations and legislation and to supplement the activities of the American Clinical Laboratory Association on Federal issues"
  • Canadian Association of Medical Laboratory Educators: CAMLE; a professional association that "exists to facilitate and mentor the education of current and future workers in Canada's laboratories, as well as assist in ensuring that laboratory workers are qualified to practice and remain competent"
  • Clinical Laboratory Management Association: CLMA; an international association that "empowers laboratory professionals to achieve excellence in leadership through forward-thinking educational, networking, and advocacy opportunities"

  • Eastern Ontario Regional Laboratory Association: EORLA; a non-profit organization that intends "to deliver patient-focused, consistent, high-quality and cost-effective hospital-based laboratory services to meet the needs of the region’s patients"
  • eHealth Initiative: eHI; a national organization attempting "to drive improvement in the quality of healthcare by promoting the use of technology and information"



  • Health Informatics in Africa: HELINA; a pan-African health informatics association dedicated to developing education, research, and strategic plans related to health informatics in Africa
  • Health Informatics New Zealand: HINZ; a professional association that "seeks to facilitate improved health care outcomes through the dissemination and utilisation of information, knowledge and technology"
  • Health Level Seven International: HL7; "a not-for-profit, ANSI-accredited standards developing organization dedicated to providing a comprehensive framework and related standards for the exchange, integration, sharing, and retrieval of electronic health information that supports clinical practice and the management, delivery, and evaluation of health services"
  • Health On the Net Foundation: HON; a non-governmental organization that "promotes and guides the deployment of useful and reliable online health information, and its appropriate and efficient use"
  • Healthcare Informatics Society of Ireland: HISI; incorporates the Healthcare Informatics sections of the Royal Academy of Medicine in Ireland and of the Irish Computer Society; strives to develop knowledge and promote research in healthcare informatics


  • IHE International: IHE; "an initiative by healthcare professionals and industry to improve the way computer systems in healthcare share information"
  • Indian Association for Medical Informatics: IAMI; an Indian association dedicated to medical specialists using informatics "into a common thread for the benefit of the patients and provoking an interdisciplinary research"
  • Institute for Laboratory Automation: ILA; a non-profit corporation dedicated to "helping people learn how to plan, implement, evaluate and use the products technologies available to them" in the laboratory and beyond
  • Institute of Health Records & Information Management: IHRIM; an educational body dedicated "to provide qualifications at different levels as well as career and professional assistance for members" from "the fields of health records, information management, clinical coding and information governance"
  • International Medical Informatics Association: IMIA; an "association of associations" which acts as a bridge between constituent organizations and their members to better "enable the transformation of healthcare in accord with the world-wide vision of improving the health of the world population"

  • Kenya Health Informatics Association: KeHIA; a professional association dedicated "to further[ing] the health and biomedical agenda in Kenya to support the government's initiatives to improve and sustain quality health services for all Kenyans"


  • Laboratory Products Association; LPA; an association that "works to provide member companies with the tools they need to enhance their jobs and improve their business operations"


  • Medical Software Industry Association: MSIA; a membership-based professional association representing "the interests of the Australian commercial software industry which develops, supplies and services information management products and services for healthcare practitioners, healthcare service providers and healthcare organisations"
  • Middle East Association for Health Informatics: MEAHI; a not-for-profit organization "trying to use regional as well as global potentials to provide a collaborative environment, in which requirements are discussed, solutions are provided, and resources are allocated to tackle healthcare issues of this vulnerable part of the world"


  • National Independent Laboratory Association: NILA; "a trade association for independent laboratories that provides a forum for the sharing of technical and business expertise"; membership is by laboratory, not individual
  • National Medical Information Education: NMIE; a national project dedicated to putting a prominent focus on the clinical application and teaching specifications of medical informatics, technical medical vocational skills, and clinical IT systems
  • New York State Clinical Laboratory Association: NYSCLA; "a not-for-profit trade association which promotes the common business interests and seeks to improve the business conditions of clinical laboratories located or operated within New York State"
  • North American Specialized Coagulation Laboratory Association: NASCOLA; a non-profit organization that intends "to provide external quality assessment for tests used to diagnose bleeding or prothrombotic disorders, thereby promoting high standards of performance and practice for specialized coagulation laboratories"


  • openEHR Foundation: a not-for-profit company that develops specification, clinical model, and other medical programs and also supports health informatics education


  • Regenstrief Institute: RI; an informatics and healthcare research organization dedicated to "improving quality of care, increasing efficiency of healthcare delivery, preventing medical errors and enhancing patient safety"
  • Romanian Association of Medical Laboratories: ALMR; a professional association that "aims to support and improve training in laboratory medicine to young professionals (doctors, biologists, biochemists, chemists) to support and accelerate scientific investigations, [and] to improve work done in the field of laboratory medicine"


  • Society for Laboratory Automation and Screening: SLAS; "a global organization that exists to provide forums for education and information exchange to encourage the study of, and improve the science and practice of, laboratory automation and screening"
