ERP5 is a free open-source enterprise resource planning (ERP) application geared towards industrial and governmental entities.

Product history

Work "officially" began on the ERP5 open-source project on December 10, 2002 on Ohloh,[1] though the project started out on the Free Software Foundation's "Savannah" host in April, primarily for its CVS repository.[2] By early 2004, the project stopped using Savannah and began hosting content on its own website.[3][4] On June 21, 2004, ERP5 was awarded Best ERP Implementation in the special edition of Décision Informatique.[5]

It remains unclear when the first official open-source release of ERP5 was made, as is much of the version history up to 2008. According to a directory of releases on the site, a version 5.0 of ERP5 was likely released on April 21, 2008[6], finalizing with version 5.4.6 likely released on August 9, 2010.[7] Release history beyond 5.4.6 is not known. Commit history on Ohloh shows work peaked in 2010 and early 2011, and then the project's activity rapidly declined — commits fell by 75% from December 2011 to December 2012 according to Ohlohs commit history tools.[8]

In late 2014, a 5.5 release emerged, extending numerous modules and improving "mainframe-like non-disruptive operation of ERP5's enterprise applications on standard hardware."[9]

As of May 2023, ERP5 code still receives occasional updates on GitLab, but no official releases with version numbers are given there.[10] As such, it's not clear if versioning is still in place as it was in the past.
