frePPLe is an open-source production planning framework. The software is available as a free fully-functional Community Edition and as fee-based commercial versions: Enterprise, OEM, and Cloud.

Product history

frePPLe was started by Belgian developer Johan De Taeye[2] in May 2006 as an open-source project on both SourceForge and Ohloh.[3][1] On March 4, 2007, a new website was set up to better distribute information about the software.[4] The software has seen steady releases since then, including a license change from the GNU Lesser General Public License to the GNU Affero General Public License in 2012.[5]

Features

The main features of frePPLe Community Edition include[6]:

  • fixed and variable operation times
  • order prioritization
  • minimum, maximum, and multiple batch sizes
  • alternate operations, resources, and materials
  • date effective material and capacity usage
  • availability calendars
  • assembly coordination
  • pegging from raw material to demand
