MetaLIMS is an open-source laboratory information management system (LIMS) for small metagenomic laboratories, particularly those "that wish to store metagenomic sample collection and processing information but do not need the extra bulk of recording NGS or analysis data, which is common in many NGS LIMS."[2]

Product history

The software started out as NanoLIMS, with a GitHub project started in September 2015 by Singapore Centre for Environmental Life Sciences Engineering's Cassie Heinle.[3] Initially designed for environmental metagenomics labs, the software was further developed for use by smaller labs with limited IT resources.[2] In February 2017, the project was renamed to MetaLIMS "due to possible IP conflict,"[4] and version 2.0 (the first public release) was released.[1] A 2.1 version with bug fixes was released in April.[1]

Features

Features of MetaLIMS include[2]:

  • sample management and tracking
  • custom recording of sensor data
  • sequencing sample sheet support
  • data submission tracking
  • custom field support
  • query tools
  • label support

Hardware/software requirements

A XAMPP stack (for development) and LAMPP stack (for production) are required. Additional deployment scripts may be necessary for Ubuntu.

Consult the manual installation and hosted installation guides for more details.
