History

In May 2011, Accelrys, Inc. announced it had acquired Swedish developer Contur Software.[1] Accelrys stated the purchase of Contur and its ELN allowed Accelrys to offer an ELN option for smaller organizations.[2]

On July 19, 2011, Contur Software, allowed to work as a separate entity, announced it had changed the name of its ConturELN to iLabber "to give our customers a better and clearer overview of our offering."[3] This may lead to some confusion, because as of April 2013, Accelrys still refers to the product as "Contur ELN" on its website. (Though the company seems to recognize this, in some of its documentation (PDF) referring to the software by both names.)

Technology and products

Contur ELN/iLabber is a "user-friendly and flexible ELN system addressing the needs of [the] small and mid-size R&D organization."[4][5]

Contur ELN / iLabber

The cost of the software as a service (SaaS) iLabber Cloud is as follows:

Commercial: $60/user per month, with all the normal ELN features minus phone support

Academic: $10/user per month, with all the normal ELN features minus phone support

The cost of the locally-hosted iLabber Server edition is not publicly available.
