Phraseanet is free open-source digital asset management software. French developer Alchemy also offers a hosted SaaS version of the software.

Product history

Phraseanet began as "Phrasea," developed as part of a one-person operation based in France around 1996.[2] The business (eventually called "Alchemy") grew, the commercial Phrasea software was re-envisioned and a new hosting platform was created in the early 2000s.[2] In 2005 a new version of the software was released, and over the next few years it became more relevant as online digital asset management became more necessary. The company decided to eventually release the software under an open-source license, offering its first stable open-source release version 3.0.0 on March 16, 2010 at the Linux Solutions Exhibition in Paris.[1] A SourceForge project was created later that month.[3]
